Health Care

It is apparent that the Health Care Act has the attention of many Americans. In the past two years alone the Consumer Health Advocacy Group Families USA found that 86.7 million Americans were uninsured at one point during that span (2007-2008). President Obama has it made it clear that passing the Health Care Act is one of his top priorities as president. As president Obama promised the House of Representatives passed the Health Care Bill by a vote of 220-215. It is being estimated that the proposal would reduce the federal deficit by $127 billion over the next 10 years and by more than $600 billion in the next decade. However, the next step for the bill is to pass through the senate.
Passing the Health Care Act would be a huge step for America. As of now the United States remains the only industrialized nation that does not have a universal health care system. If the health care bill passes not only will it save us money but it would also increase the health of many Americans that can’t afford to pay for medical attention. Overall, I believe that this bill should get passed because there are too many Americans who cannot afford healthcare, and because we are one of the few countries who have not caught on with the other countries that are providing healthcare to their residents.

College sports don’t get quite the publicity as the major league sports attract. In particular college baseball attracts some of the least publicity in today’s media. Why do college sports not get more recognition in the media? Is it because college baseball is boring, the lack of advertisement from the colleges, or the talent on college teams? The more attention college athletes get the greater chances of America seeing the sports stars of tomorrow.
In recent college baseball news, long time Florida baseball coach Dave Fuller has passed away at the age of 94. Dave Fuller was the most successful coach in the University’s history going an impressive 557-354-6. The University of Florida has not unveiled their 2010 schedule, but has begun fall practices. One of the few teams to announce their 2010 schedule are top ranked in the Pac-10 division the USC Trojans. The Trojans are set to start with a three game series at Cal-Poly. Not too long ago Major League baseball had its annual draft. The Washington Nationals with the first pick selected San Diego State’s pitcher Stephen Strasburg. The talented right hand pitcher however made more news on his ridiculously large contract instead of his amazing talent. Negations with Strasburg and the Nationals went on for months until they agreed on a four year deal worth up to 15 million dollars which is the largest contract ever given to a rookie. The college baseball world now a waits the next Stephen Strasburg.
